Gears of War 3 Hardware Roundup
At long last, Gears of War 3 has arrived, and if you haven't heard, it's awesome. In celebration of the trilogy's final installment, Epic has partnered up with Microsoft, Tritton, Calibur11, and more to craft a wide array of products for Gears fans to feast upon.
Here's a quick rundown of some of the officially licensed gear you can brandish your love all things Gears with.
Gears of War 3 Limited Edition Xbox 360 and Controllers
Perhaps the most elaborate form of Gears fan service would be the Gears
of War 3 limited edition Xbox 360, which has been codeveloped with Epic
games to feature a custom paintjob based on art from the game and even
custom startup and disc tray opening tones taken directly from the game.
Like the Modern Warfare 3 console recently announced, the system will
have a 320GB hard drive – the largest capacity drive currently available
for the Xbox 360. Naturally, the console comes bundled with the game
and two controllers. For those who just want the custom controllers,
Microsoft is also offering them separately.
The console bundle is available now for $399, while the controllers are retailing for $49.99.
Callibur11's Gears of War Vault
Want to make your Xbox 360 battle ready, but don't want to shell out the
necessary funds to get Microsoft's special edition hardware?
Calibur11's Gears of War Vault case may be for you.
This custom Xbox 360 case wraps around your existing console, but sports
a similar Gears of War-inspired paintjob, as well as a glowing red COG
logo. What's more, the glowing COG logo reacts to in-game cues,
pulsating when you've been downed in the game.
The Vault is available now and costs $89.99.
Tritton's Gears of War 3 Gaming Headsets
Tritton, purveyors of all manner of gaming headsets, have whipped up a line of officially licensed audio solutions for the Xbox 360.
First up, they've got the Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound Headset, which is the
high-end product in the range. Sporting Dolby 7.1 simulated surround
sound audio and glowing COG logo earcups, this headset is for the most
devout Gears fan.
For those a little more cost-conscious, there's the Performance Gaming
Headset, which drops the simulated surround sound and the glowing COG
logos, but maintains official Gears of War branding and Xbox 360
functionality.
Finally, for basic chat communication, there's the Throat Communicator,
which takes a Navy Seals-esque design that detects your voice through
your throat and integrates it into a standard Xbox 360 microphone.
All three headsets are available now for the price of $179, $99, and $29, respectively.
Gears of War 3 Replica Lancer
Perhaps not as practical as the officially licensed console or gaming headsets, but equally awesome, the Gears of War 3 replica lancer is a great gift for any fan.
Available exclusively at GameStop and for the surprisingly accessible
price of $99, the Gears of War 3 Replica Lancer is a three and a half
foot long recreation of the in-game version, complete with bloody
bayonet.
